Space
One of the essential elements of costume and set creation is space. This refers to efficiently using the space available during the production. The vertical and horizontal dimensions can coexist on the stage. Performers may take any position in the stage including either downstage, upstage left or stage right. It is also possible to use various stages, such as sitting or crawling on a different level, or lying down, crawling, or even physically using different parts that is on stage. The movement is an important aspect in maximizing space.
In order to make the most of space, it’s important for the director to clearly convey to the audience the location of the action. The space could be used to create variations of a place during the performance. It is particularly important if props or sets do not exist, as the audience has a lot to draw from their imagination. This is also known as implied space in the theater. This means that any locations that change throughout the show may fit into this category. Theater structures and shows can occasionally be created by making use of a particular area, such as traversing, thrust, or proscenium.
Spectacle
Famous philosophers such as Aristotle thought that spectacles were essential for setting and designing costumes many years ago. According to the philosopher, elements of a spectacle are the actor’s gestures, the scenery costumes and visual effects produced by the resonance of the voice of the performer.
Today the term “spectacle” can be described as every aspect of the spectacle’s visual components, such as stagecraft and production. Stage sets, special effects such as stage props, makeup and make-up all fall under this category. The spectacle of a contemporary theater is likely to be greater than ever in the face of new technology.
